The Full Council of the Northern Land Council announced that it has agreed to nominate a section of land on Muckaty Station, 120km north of Tennant Creek, for the Commonwealth radioactive waste management facility.

Amendments have been made to the Commonwealth Radioactive Waste Management Act 2005. The amendments provide for the return of nominated Aboriginal freehold land to its traditional owners, when no longer required, should such land be nominated and ultimately selected for the Commonwealth Radioactive Waste Management Facility.

Joint regulatory process for Commonwealth Radioactive Waste Management Facility
- The Department of the Environment and Heritage and ARPANSA have agreed to a joint environmental assessment and siting licence process. This is expected to reduce the time required for these processes by around six months. However, there will be no overall shortening of the project time frame because of delays in commencement of site studies from late 2005 to early 2006.
